McCormack studied the Italian 'Bel Canto' style in Milan in the early 1900's. The Bel Canto really shows itself in McCormack's wonderful diction and superb breath control. One of the best lyric tenors ever. Che bellissima voce. Bravo Maestro McCormack. Grazie mille.

So simple yet so melodious and this was 1912. In spite of the poor technology of the time you can hear the beautiful 'rounded' notes coming through, - an absolute favourite!

My # 1 favourite tenor. The first girl I had a crush on , about 75 y ago, was a Silvia/Sylvia Clark(e) in Birkenhead. I hope she had/has a happy life: I never disclosed my feelings to her...far too shy at the time.

In rural Oregon in the 1940's my mother would play an old pump organ (no electricity) to accompany my dad and us kids singing this song and others from a tattered copy of "The Everybody Sing" songbook. How grateful I am to have that memory awoken by this song.

I’m so happy to find this recording. I’m reading Gerald Clarke’s biography of Truman Capote who wrote about Truman’s love, Newton Arvin-who during one of his suicide attempts, downs a lot of pills whilst listening to this exact recording. The ability to listen to this enhances the passage in the story that took place. Fortunately, he survived that attempt to discover, later, the joys of love with Truman Capote

This recording is very good, but it can never compare to the one done in 1914. The earlier version has captured the great McCormack at the very height of his magnificent singing ability.
